OGRA Announces Big Increase in Gas Prices from July 1, 2025

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has officially announced a major increase in gas prices for most domestic, industrial, and power plant consumers. The new rates will start from July 1, 2025, according to an official notification.

This step will increase financial pressure on people already facing high inflation. Domestic gas prices will go up by up to 50% in some categories.

New Gas Prices for Homes

  • Protected consumers (low-income families) will pay between Rs200 to Rs350 per MMBTU.
  • Non-protected consumers will pay Rs500 to Rs4,200 per MMBTU.

Also, fixed monthly charges for gas connections have increased:

  • Non-protected category: Rs1,500 per month (up from Rs1,000)
  • High usage homes: Rs3,000 per month (up from Rs2,000)

Increases for Power Plants and Industry

OGRA has also increased gas prices by 10% for power plants and industrial consumers. This move is part of a plan agreed with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to reduce energy sector debt and limit subsidies.

Prices Stay Same for Some Sectors

Gas prices for tandoors, commercial units, CNG stations, cement factories, and fertilizer plants will remain the same, according to the notification.

Government’s Reason

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved this change to help recover costs in the gas sector and reduce circular debt. Officials say this decision will help keep the gas supply stable and improve services.

Recent Reduction in LPG Price

Earlier, OGRA reduced LPG prices by Rs4.62 per kilogram, bringing the new rate to Rs240.43 per kg.

Conclusion

The new gas prices and fixed charges will start from July 1, 2025. Citizens should prepare for higher gas bills in the coming months.
