After the tragic Swat River incident where 13 people died due to flash flooding, the Punjab government has taken serious action to protect citizens during the ongoing monsoon season.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued emergency instructions to Rescue 1122 and Deputy Commissioners of five high-risk districts: Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur. These areas are more likely to face flash floods because of expected 25% above-normal rainfall this year, as predicted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
To avoid more accidents, strong safety rules have been announced. People are strictly banned from swimming or bathing in rivers, canals, or stormwater drains. Picnic spots near water bodies will be closely watched, and Section 144 is already in place to stop public gatherings at dangerous places.
All district emergency centers have been told to stay open 24 hours a day. Special teams will patrol sensitive spots, and boats without life jackets or carrying too many people will not be allowed to operate.
PDMA has also instructed departments like Irrigation, Communication, and Rescue 1122 to do joint visits and mark areas that are at risk. Signboards will be placed to warn the public. Loudspeaker announcements, mosque messages, cable TV, and local media will be used to spread awareness.

Health authorities have been asked to keep ambulances ready near danger zones. Rescue 1122 will also deploy trained teams with boats and medical kits. Mock drills will be done to test emergency response speed and coordination.
The goal is clear: to prevent any loss of life. The Punjab government, under the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has promised to take all possible steps to keep people safe from flood-related dangers.
People are requested to stay away from rivers and flooded areas, follow government instructions, and report any violations. Safety comes first, and with joint effort, many lives can be saved.
