In Pakistan, Punjab took strong steps to fight plastic pollution. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made a clear promise to turn Punjab into a plastic-free province. The government is now turning that promise into real action.
To stop the use of single-use plastic, a Plastic Management Cell has been created in Punjab. This cell works on making laws, spreading awareness, and making sure people follow the rules. From June 2024 till now, officials have taken big actions across Punjab.
More than 318,993 plastic bags (in kilograms) have been seized. Over 7,000 FIRs were registered against those who broke the law. About 115 lakh rupees were collected in fines, and 197 shops or units were sealed. This strong campaign is setting new records.
To help people shift to better options, the government is also promoting cloth bags, paper bags, and other eco-friendly products. District-level plastic management committees have been formed. Their job is to guide and support local areas in this green mission.

Along with action, the Punjab Government is also focusing on awareness and education. People are being informed through campaigns, notices, and the Green Punjab App. Anyone can now report plastic use or learn more about the policy through this app or by calling helpline 1373.
This movement is a big step towards protecting the environment and fighting climate change. The Punjab government is working with full force to clean the environment and give future generations a healthier life.
Let’s all join this mission by refusing plastic bags and using reusable alternatives instead.
